Pride and Prejudice is an 1813 novel of manners by Jane Austen. The novel follows the character development of Elizabeth Bennet, the dynamic protagonist of the book who learns about the repercussions of hasty judgments and comes to appreciate the difference between superficial goodness and actual goodness. Mr. Bennet, owner of the Longbourn estate in Hertfordshire, has five daughters, but his property is entailed and can only be passed to a male heir. His wife also lacks an inheritance, so his family faces becoming poor upon his death. Thus, it is imperative that at least one of the daughters marries well to support the others, which is a motivation that drives the plot. Pride and Prejudice has consistently appeared near the top of lists of "most-loved books" among literary scholars and the reading public. It has become one of the most popular novels in English literature, with over 20 million copies sold, and has inspired many derivatives in modern literature. For more than a century, dramatic adaptations, reprints, unofficial sequels, films, and TV versions of Pride and Prejudice have portrayed the memorable characters and themes of the novel, reaching mass audiences.

Jane Austen's most famous novel, Pride and Prejudice is brought to sparkling new life in this “wonderful, unforgettable” recording from AudioFile Earphones award-winning narrator Alison Larkin. A witty and always original voice Alison Larkin follows her "hugely entertaining" narration of Pride and Prejudice with Songs from Regency England, to give the listener a sense of what after dinner family entertainment might have sounded like in Jane Austen's time. Recorded in a drawing room not unlike the Bennets', a young lady who sounds suspiciously like Mary Bennet sings The Lonely Ash Grove, Ye Banks and Braes & and Down by the Salley Gardens, making up in vocal enthusiasm what she lacks in polish.“Raised in England by adoptive parents, Alison Larkin was actually born in America. She herself is a comic writer and performer – and she approaches Austen as a satirist – she has genuine theatrical skill - sustained comic creations. The voice reveals all.” The New Yorker“There’s a vintage feel to Alison Larkin’s narration, The bell-like quality of her sweetly accented voice harkens back to another, quieter, time. However, her delivery... offers a flexibility that is contemporary and easy to hear." The most romantic literary lovers in history: Anne Elliot and Captain Wentworth. Lucy Honeychurch and George Emerson. Helen Graham and Gilbert Markham. Now, all three of their classic stories are collected in one volume: the Classic Romance Collection - Volume III featuring Jane Austen's "Persuasion," E.M. Forster's "A Room With a View," and Anne Brontë's "The Tenant of Wildfell Hall." First, Jane Austen's "Persuasion," wherein we meet Anne Elliot, whose family is in crisis. Anne's once-wealthy father has fallen into financial ruin and they are forced to rent their estate and move to more modest accommodations. What's more, the family that moves into the house is that of Captain Wentworth, whom Anne rejected as a suitor years before due to his lack of prospects but who has now risen in the military ranks to become wealthy and prosperous. Anne, now twenty-seven, feels that she is past her prime and that her marriage prospects are dim. Or...are they? Then, we have E.M. Forster's "A Room With a View," featuring the beautiful young Englishwoman Lucy Honeychurch who - on a trip to Italy - encounters and becomes enamored with the free-thinking and handsome George Emerson. Will Lucy marry the society-approved Cecil Vyse...or follow her heart? Finally, we have "The Tenant of Wildfell Hall," Anne Brontë's wildly successful and best-known novel. It tells the story of Helen Graham, a young woman who is courted by and marries the spoiled and self-involved Arthur Huntingdon, a charming suitor but a disastrous and cruel husband. Helen is pressed by her would-be suitor Gilbert Markham to abandon her husband and run away with him but...her devotion to her horrible husband forbids it. Three classic novels of love, drama and romance collected together for the first time, these books are presented in their original and unabridged format.

Smart, sassy and strong-willed Lizzie Bennett is facing a crisis: she and her sisters need to marry, and marry rich, otherwise they face losing their home. While her amazing older sister Jane is swept away by the charming Mr Bingley, Lizzie finds herself butting heads with the rude and obnoxious (but filthy rich) Fitzwilliam Darcy – but no matter, she’d much rather be trading witty remarks with soldier Wickham anyway. But when her family is caught up in an earth-shattering scandal, Lizzie and Darcy find themselves thrown together and learning that there may be more to each other than meets the eye...A story of female friendships, pesky sisters, grumpy love interests and learning to admit when you’re wrong. There’s a reason this is the ultimate enemies to lovers romance. Will be loved by fans of “Ayesha at Last” by Uzma Jalaluddin, “She Drives me Crazy” by Kelly Quindlen and Anthony and Kate’s season of Netflix’s “Bridgerton”. Celebrated as one of the greatest English language writers of all time, Jane Austen (1775-1817) was a clever and witty author who wrote romantic novels filled with sparkling characters and social satire.

With handsome rich men and ladies of leisure fluttering their eyelids trying to catch their attention, 'The Three Sisters' reads like a humorous trial run for 'Pride and Prejudice'. Told via correspondence, this is in fact a tale of a single man, Mr. Watts, who is in possession of a good fortune and is in want of a wife. Mrs. Stanhope is the mother of a family of girls who is very much in want of a son-in-law. And the girls? Despite one of them being "the happiest creature on the planet", they aren’t actually all that happy at all. This satirical narrative of courtship and self-interest by the young Jane Austen is a must for any fan of the modern Chick-Lit novel or Rom-Com film. As an extra treat, this edition includes four additional writings from Jane Austen, making this essential reading for any Austen fan or study. These additional pieces include: •t'A Fragment written to inculcate the practice of Virtue' •t'A beautiful description of the different effects of sensibility on different minds' •t'The Generous Curate: A moral Tale, setting forth the Advantages of being Generous and a Curate.' •t'Ode to Pity' Jane Austen (1775-1817) is one of the most beloved British writers of all time. Mr Darcy and Miss Bennet may be one of the most cherished love stories in English literature, but did you know, Fanny Price was Austen’s favourite? She’s also one of literature’s biggest controversies, but, more on that drama later. Sent to live with her rich aunt and uncle from her poverty-stricken home of Portsmouth, Fanny Price struggles to find her place in the upper-class world of Mansfield Park. Never allowing her to forget her true status, she is at the mercy of her cruel aunt, only finding solace with her cousin, Edmund. The arrival of Mr and Miss Crawford brings glamour, glitz and mischief to Mansfield and with it, a recklessness and disarray that affects ultimately every character. Austen’s favourite heroine gives us a quiet and profound insight into morality, class and social position. If you like a good party, controversy and wickedly good characters, you’ll love Mansfield Park. Adapted for the screen with Billie Piper, fans of Jane Eyre and Tess of D’Urbervilles will love another look at the world through Austen’s eyes. ‘When you are more intimately acquainted with my Alice, you will not be surprised, Lucy, to see the dear creature drink a little too much; for such things happen every day. She has many rare and charming qualities, but sobriety is not one of them.’ Decidedly strange, illogical and out of the norm, "Jack and Alice" depicts life in Pammydiddle, a pleasant English town with a love of parties, scandal and gossip. The work is full of parody and a pastiche of many literary trends of the time. Another classic short story from Austen's "juvenilia", written in her teenage years and originally shared with her family and friends. Full of bold, ridiculous characters and the satire she would later be famed for, it is the perfect insight into the quick-witted mind of young Austen.
