Frances Hodgson Burnett is one of the most beloved writers of children's books in history. Two of her novels - "A Little Princess" and "The Secret Garden" - regularly find themselves near the top of any list of favorite children's books and they have both been adapted to the stage and screen dozens of times. In the first of these novels - "A Little Princess" tells the tale of young Sara Crewe, a young British girl who lives the life of a princess. Born to rich father who dotes on her, she enjoys all the trappings of wealth: carriages, fine clothing, servants...anything her heart desires. But when her father dies and his fortune dries up, Sara finds herself a penniless orphan, abused by her guardian and forced to work at menial jobs to scratch out an existence. In the second book, "The Secret Garden," Burnett continues this theme with the story of Mary Lennox, another British girl who is orphaned as a child and sent to live with her moody, enigmatic uncle at his sprawling estate in England. Mary learns that her uncle is a widower and has shut up a beautiful garden on his estate because it was a favorite of his dead wife and the girl becomes obsessed with finding this mysterious place and exploring it herself. These two books are both extraordinary novels of survival, friendship and the power of the human spirit and they are presented here in their original and unabridged format, just as it first appeared in print.

One of E.M. Forster's most critically-acclaimed works, "A Passage to India" was chosen by Time Magazine as one of the best "All Time 100 Novels" and it won the 1924 James Tait Black Memorial Prize for fiction. Modern Library also lists the book as one of the 100 greatest works of 20th-century English literature. The story - one of Forster's darkest tales - revolves around a trip to India by British schoolmistress Adela Quested and her companion, Mrs. Moore. After meeting with a local physician, Dr. Aziz, the two visitors travel with him on a tour of the famous Marabar Caves. While exploring a dark cave alone, Adela is forced to fend off a mysterious attacker and Dr. Aziz - who became separated from the party - is accused of assault. A brilliant and troubling examination of privilege, racial tension and colonial rule, "A Passage to India" is often cited as Forster's masterpiece. The book has been adapted many times for the stage and screen, most famously for the Oscar-winning 1984 film directed by David Lean and starring Judy Davis, Peggy Ashcroft and Alec Guinness. "A Passage to India" is presented here in its original and unabridged format and has been narrated by renowned audiobook narrator Sara Nichols, who also gave voice to Charlotte Brontë's "Jane Eyre," Willa Cather's "Prairie Trilogy" and the complete works of Jane Austen.

Predating Bram Stoker's "Dracula" by twenty-five years, Sheridan Le Fanu's "Carmilla" is one of the earliest examples of vampire fiction; a Gothic novella narrated by a young girl who becomes a victim of the title character, a female vampire named Carmilla. The plot centers on Laura, an English girl living in Austria with her father, a retired and wealthy widower. As a child, Laura had dreamed of a nocturnal visitor, a phantom-like young woman who stole into Laura's room and drew blood from her. Years later, when a carriage accident outside their home causes Laura and her father to take in the survivors of the accident - a woman and her daughter - Laura is stunned to discover that the daughter is identical to the young woman in her dreams. As their friendship (and stirrings of romance) begins to grow between the two young women, people around Laura (and eventually Laura herself) begin to suffer from ill health. When the symptoms are recognized as those of a vampire attack, the stage is set for a showdown between Carmilla and the fearsome vampire hunter Baron Vordenburg. Originally serialized in the literary magazine The Dark Blue from 1871-72, Le Fanu published the full novella in 1872 as part of his story fiction collection "In a Glass Darkly" and the story has since become of the most popular horror stories in literature. "Carmilla" is often cited as an inspiration for "Dracula" and many other horror classics. It is presented here in its original and unabridged format.

Collected here are two E.M. Forster classics: "A Room With a View" and "Howards End," each a stand-alone masterpiece and both celebrated as among the finest novels of early 20th century literature. In the first, "A Room With a View" we follow the travels - both abroad and romantically - of young Lucy Honeychurch, who kindles a flirtation while on vacation in Italy, but then returns home to find herself in a passionless engagement. When the young man who stirred her heart in Florence becomes her neighbor in England, Lucy is faced with a dilemma: Break off her engagement to the society-approved Cecil Vyse or....follow her heart with the dashing George Emerson. In "Howards End" (considered by many to be Forster's finest work), we meet three families: the idealistic Schlegels, the fabulously wealthy Wilcoxes and the impoverished Basts. When Ruth, the ailing matriarch of the Wilcox family, secretly bequeaths her beloved country house Howards End to Margaret Schlegel, it launches a series of events - including family strife, infidelities, and a secret pregnancy - which threaten to destroy all three families. Long hailed as one of the most brilliant and beloved authors of the Edwardian era, E.M. Forster's works have become among the most critically acclaimed and cherished novels of the past hundred years and have been adapted numerous times for the stage and screen. "A Room With a View" and "Howards End" are presented here in their original and unabridged formats and narrated by renowned audiobook performer Sara Nichols, best known for her readings of Charlotte Bronte's "Jane Eyre," Willa Cather's Prairie Trilogy and Dorothy Parker's "Sunset Gun."

The most romantic literary lovers in history: Anne Elliot and Captain Wentworth. Lucy Honeychurch and George Emerson. Helen Graham and Gilbert Markham. Now, all three of their classic stories are collected in one volume: the Classic Romance Collection - Volume III featuring Jane Austen's "Persuasion," E.M. Forster's "A Room With a View," and Anne Brontë's "The Tenant of Wildfell Hall." First, Jane Austen's "Persuasion," wherein we meet Anne Elliot, whose family is in crisis. Anne's once-wealthy father has fallen into financial ruin and they are forced to rent their estate and move to more modest accommodations. What's more, the family that moves into the house is that of Captain Wentworth, whom Anne rejected as a suitor years before due to his lack of prospects but who has now risen in the military ranks to become wealthy and prosperous. Anne, now twenty-seven, feels that she is past her prime and that her marriage prospects are dim. Or...are they? Then, we have E.M. Forster's "A Room With a View," featuring the beautiful young Englishwoman Lucy Honeychurch who - on a trip to Italy - encounters and becomes enamored with the free-thinking and handsome George Emerson. Will Lucy marry the society-approved Cecil Vyse...or follow her heart? Finally, we have "The Tenant of Wildfell Hall," Anne Brontë's wildly successful and best-known novel. It tells the story of Helen Graham, a young woman who is courted by and marries the spoiled and self-involved Arthur Huntingdon, a charming suitor but a disastrous and cruel husband. Helen is pressed by her would-be suitor Gilbert Markham to abandon her husband and run away with him but...her devotion to her horrible husband forbids it. Three classic novels of love, drama and romance collected together for the first time, these books are presented in their original and unabridged format.

One of E.M. Forster's most beloved and critically-acclaimed works, "A Room With a View" follows the journeys - both abroad and romantically - of young Lucy Honeychurch, a British girl during the Edwardian era with a distinctly independent nature. On a trip to Italy, with her chaperone in tow, Lucy encounters a Mr. Emerson and his son George. Both men are free-thinkers, unbound by the strictures of the day, and as they continue to run into each other on the trip, Lucy starts to become secretly enamored of George. After witnessing a murder in Florence (from which chaotic scene George rescues her), Lucy accidentally stumbles upon him again in a field where - overcome by both her beauty and the romantic setting - George kisses Lucy...and the couple parts. Once again home, Lucy becomes engaged to the snobbish and rather pretentious Cecil...and then learns that the Emersons have moved to the local village. This sets the scene for the question: Will Lucy will bow to convention and marry the society-approved Cecil....or break the engagement and run away with George? A classic of early 20th century literature, "A Room With a View" has been adapted numerous times for the stage and screen, most notably for the 1985 Oscar-winning Merchant Ivory film starring Helena Bonham Carter as Lucy, Maggie Smith as Charlotte and Julian Sands as George. It is presented here in its original and unabridged format.

Presented here is Volume IV of our Feminist Literary Classics series, featuring three of the most important feminist works ever written: A Room of One's Own by Virginia Woolf, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë and The Song of the Lark by Willa Cather. The first book in this collection is A Room of One's Own, a groundbreaking examination of women's roles in literary history by English author Virginia Woolf that delves into the barriers that prevented female writers from seeing their works in print. A widely hailed and essential piece of feminist writing, it is among Woolf's most admired works. Next is a classic tale of survival and resilience, Charlotte Brontë's brilliant "Jane Eyre," in which we meet young Jane, an orphan who is cast out by her family and must learn to forge her own way in life. Both a thrilling saga of strength and perseverance and a heartwarming love story, "Jane Eyre" is one of the most beloved and cherished novels in English literature. And finally, we present The Song of the Lark, Willa Cather's final book of her classic "Prairie Trilogy," which tells the story of budding artist Thea Kronbog, who rises from complete obscurity in a tiny Colorado town to become a world-renowned opera singer. A fascinating look at life in the early 20th century as well as a deep dive into the life and struggles of a creative artist rising to the top of her profession, "The Song of the Lark" was universally praised for its realism and meticulous depiction of Thea's journey. Each of these books is presented in its original and unabridged format.
